 I love the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (even though it is literally the longest name for a beauty product ever) and I feel like I'm always talking about the shade "Honey". But today, I'm going to be talking about the shade "Sweetheart". I originally bought this color because I thought it was the color that Emma Stone was wearing in the Jut Bitten Kissable Balm Stain advertisements. Unfortunately, I was wrong. She was wearing the shade "Lovesick". But in my defense, the shades are very similar.

 Before I get into my opinions on this particular shade, I'm going to do a quick summary of my thoughts about the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains in general. These are the perfect hybrid (as the name would suggest) between a balm and a stain. They're ultra long lasting (especially the darker and bolder colors) but they're incredibly moisturizing on the lips. They come in an easy to use crayon and they're great to apply on the go. I can't get enough of these bad boys and I have then in at least six shades. They're fantastic!

 "Sweetheart" is a super bright, super bold fuchsia shade. I know that there are hundreds of women out there that love this shade but, for me personally, it isn't my cup of tea. I prefer to wear more neutral or plummy lipsticks. There is a very similar shade, "Lovesick", and it is slightly darker and slightly more purple and I think that it suits my skin tone a bit better. I'm not the biggest fan of this color but I wanted to do a swatch because I knew that a lot of my readers would love it. It's a gorgeous color but I don't think it's right for me.

 Here is a swatch of the product on the lips. It's strange. I think it looks lovely here but I just feel uncomfortable wearing such a bold color in person.

In conclusion, I think the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are fantastic. I can't wait to get my hands on more shades but this isn't one that I find incredibly flattering. The formulation is fantastic but this is probably the shade that I reach for the least. But please don't let my lack of enthusiasm for this color discourage you from going out and buying it. "Sweeheart" truly is a great product but it isn't for me.

 Another day, another review. I feel like all of my recent reviews have been products that were featured in my What's In My Travel Makeup Bag? post. Anyone else feel that way? But unfortunately (spoiler alert) this review does not end well. I wanted to like this eye shadow quad. I really did. But I just couldn't.

 The Revlon Illuminance Cream Eye Shadow Quads are not a new release from Revlon. They've been out for a while but for some reason I was never drawn to them. Then, during my trip to Hawaii, Long's Drugs was having a sale on Revlon products and I was suddenly tempted to picked up a few of these palettes. I got one for everyday--"Not Just Nudes"--and one for a nice pop of color--"Wild Orchids".

 The quad comes with a dark shimmery brown, a matte warm medium brown (sort of reminds me of Soft Brown eye shadow from MAC), a shimmery light champagne, and a matte cream. So, it's a nice balance of matte and shimmer colors. Smart move Revlon.

Here are the colors swatched on the back of my hand. I was super impressed by the creaminess and blendibility of these shadows. Some of the shades (specifically the dark and medium brown) were a bit sheer when I first applied them but I found them to be very buildable. Applying these shadows was a piece of cake. However, it was later on in the day that I started to have problems. These colors crease like crazy. I tried wearing these shadows with a few primers (Benefit Stay Don't Stray and Urban Decay Primer Potion) but that didn't really seem to stop the problem. 

I found that these shadows don't ever truly set. So they stay creamy throughout the day and they shift and get smudged and crease. I have super oily eyelids and no matter what I did, I just couldn't get these shadows to last until lunchtime, much less all day. 

POSITIVES

-Doesn't ever really set (stays creamy throughout the day)

The Revlon Illuminance Cream Eye Shadows have a lot of things going for it--they're creamy, they have good pigmenation, they're extreme easy to blend. But they are not going to last all day. They crease and they fade and they smudge. It's just a nightmare--especially if you have oily eye lids.

 My Hawaii time has come to an end. For those of you who didn't know, each year I spend about a month in Hawaii split between my Aunt's house in Honolulu and my Grandma's house on the Big Island. It is one of the highlights of my summer as I get to spend time with my family and work on my tan. To celebrate my time in Hawaii, I thought I would blog about one of my favorite shades to wear while I'm here. I don't know what it is that compels me to reach for "Gumdrop" while I'm here but it's one of those staple summer shades.

Unlike many products in my makeup collection, "Gumdrop" is truly unique. I can only think of one product that is anything similar (Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in "Darling") but of the two I prefer to wear "Gumdrop". Like all the other Lip Butters, this one has an easy and smooth application. It isn't moisturizing but it's ultra creamy formula feels lovely on the lips. The packaging is sleek and modern (a signature of Revlon's packaging) but a youthful twist is added with the colorful quilted caps. The caps are a genius idea--they make searching for the perfect color in your disorganized makeup collection or at the bottom of your handbag a breeze. The only noticeable design flaw I've found in the time I've used the Lip Butters is that product will collect on the sides of the tube. It's a bit messy but nothing to be overly concerned about.

"Gumdrop" is one of those colors that is hard to appreciate the true beauty until you've seen it swatched on the lips. It gives the subtlest hint of lilac to the lips. Sometimes I wear it on its own but it also looks lovely when applied over other lipsticks to give it a little something extra. "Gumdrop", like "Lollipop", has silver glitter in it but once the product is applied to the lips it is almost near impossible to detect. "Gumdrop" would make a great addiction to any collection.

 I've been a huge fan of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (aka the longest named product at the drugstore) for a while now. I love the shades "Smitten" and "Romantic" but "Honey" is the one that I wear the most. Although it looks a bit purple in the tube it appears on the lips as a medium mauve color. It is the most natural color from the line but it is also the one that has the weakest staying power.  Click here if you want to see what I had to say about the other colors from this range.

Since their release the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains have received a lot of hype because of their lasting power (spoiler alert: they deserve the hype). In my experience, the range well exceeded my expectations. Some of the darker colors can last up to twelve or fourteen hours however "Honey" is not one of those shades. The balm stains work very similarly to a marker on the back of your hand--darker colors like black and blue are easier to see and last longer than lighter colors like yellow. "Honey" is the lightest color in the range and, as a result, is the one that seems to fade the quickest. It will last for about three hours but that's nothing compared to some of the other shades.

No sharper is needed because the balm stains are twist-up pencils. Which, in my humble opinion, was a stroke of sheer genius. They're super low maintenance and, if I'm in a rush, I can apply "Honey" without a mirror. The product is infused with a fresh mint scent which I absolutely love (although if you're no the biggest fan of mint, know that it fades quickly after application). The balm stains retail for anywhere from around seven to ten dollars which puts them on the more expensive end of drugstore products. Revlon was a bit deceiving when they designed their packaging because at first glance it looks like you get a lot of product but in actuality you get about the same product as with a traditional lipstick. If you look really closely at the second picture you can see where the product ends half-way down the tube. A bit of a waste if you ask me.

 The product in the tube is significantly darker than the color of the packaging. This is unfortunate because when shopping in at the drugstore (due to the safety packaging) you have to rely soley on the color of the packaging to choose which shades you want. I have found this to be a common trend with  the Revlon balm stains which is why I highly recommend doing your research before buying one (they're kind of expensive for a drugstore product). The shades in the range can be very hit or miss but "Honey" is a really lovely shade. I wasn't the biggest fan when I first bought it but over time I've fallen in love. But I'm not the only one. In conclusion, "Honey" is a lovely and effortless shade to wear (winter or summer). I don't know how visible it would be on significantly darker skin tones but I know that it would look lovely on very light to medium skin tones. Even though the Revlon balm stains have a reputation for being ultra long lasting, "Honey"'s lasting power isn't as impressive (comparable to a long lasting lipstick rather than a stain). There are many (many, many, many) similarly packaged products on the market but the Revlon balm stains are my favorite. It easily blows the Clinique Chubby Sticks and the CoverGirl Jumbo Gloss Balms out of the water in lasting power and pigmentation.

 So far I have heard pretty much nothing about the Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks on YouTube or from other beauty bloggers. So when I finally got my hands on two shades from the range, I didn't know what to expect. A part of me had high hopes...but I've learned over the years that sometimes no good news on the beauty blog-o-sphere is bad news. But after testing them out for the past two weeks, I found that I was pleasantly surprised.

"It Girl" is a light coral shade with a subtle hint of glitter. I probably never would've picked out for myself and that is a shame because it is a stunning and effortless color. The name of the range might be pretentious and much too long but Ultimate Suede is an accurate description of the formula. It glides onto the lips (silky and smooth) and the lasting power is superb (equal to, if not greater than, the Revlon Kissable Just Bitten Lip Stains). The darker shades of the Revlon Kissable Just Bitten Lip Stains can last up to twelve hours on the lips once the product has been allowed to set but the lasting power of the lighter shades is not as impressive. However, I found over the coarse of the last two weeks that this is not a problem for the Ultimate Suede Lipsticks. Even thought "It Girl" is a light coral color, it lasts all day (although I must warn you that the glitter outlasts the actual color). 

But while I was impressed with the lasting power, the stickiness of the formula was a little annoying. I had hoped that it would disappear after the lipstick dried but that was not the case. I also found that while it takes hours for the color to fade, when it finally started to fade, it did so unevenly.

In conclusion, this is not a holy grail item by any stretch of the imagination but I am in love with this color. It is perfect for summer and I have to thank my sister for choosing this color for me (because she knows what will look good on me better than I know myself). If Revlon would remove the glitter, this would've probably been a must-have drugstore product for me. Unfortunately, the glitter is a large part of why the product fades so unevenly. Why do companies think that we want glittery lipsticks? Isn't that why we have lipgloss? So that we can choose which days we want disco lips and which days we don't? Eh, but what do I know.

Drugstore Dupes: MAC "Lustering" Lipstick

Drugstore Dupes: MAC "Lustering" Vs. Revlon Lip Butter in "Sweet Tart"

 I'm glad so many of you enjoyed the first installment in my new series, Drugstore Dupes. Last time I compared the elf  Blush + Bronzing Powder in St. Lucia to the NARS "Laguna" bronzer and "Orgasm" blush. Click here if you want to see that post. But because you guys seemed to enjoy that post so much, when I found found a dupe for one of my favorite MAC lipsticks I knew I had to share it with you guys. MAC "Lustering" is a gorgeous  medium bubble gum pink lipstick with a subtle glossy finish. Unfortunately, like all MAC lipsticks, "Lustering" retails for $15.00 at MAC counters and online. However the Revlon Lip Butter in "Sweet Tart" retails at drugstores for about $6.00 (depending on where you buy it). That's a difference of almost ten dollars! But I know what you're thinking, how closely doe the two shades compare? Well, let's take a look. In the bullet the two lip products look similar but the MAC lipstick looks the slightest bit darker.

 Swatched on the back of the hand the difference between the two shades becomes less pronounced. If you look closely the "Lustering" still appears a little darker and "Sweet Tart" has a bit more of a glossy sheen to it. But these two lipstick are really, really similar.

 And now for the final test--the application comparison. Here is a look at MAC "Lustering" applied on the left side and the Revlon Lip Butter in "Sweet Tart" applied on the right. Honestly...I can't really see much a difference between the two products. The Lip Butter has a thicker, more opaque formulation while the MAC  lipstick has a sheer (but build-able) formulation.

In conclusion, the Revlon Lip Butter in "Sweet Tart" is an excellent dupe for MAC "Lustering" lipstick. If you have one shade, you don't need the other. When applied to the lips, the differences between the two products is virtually non-existent. If you've been lusting after "Lustering" for some time now but don't have the funds to buy it, check out Revlon "Sweet Tart". You'll save ten dollars and still have gorgeous pink lips.

Revlon "Lollipop" Lip Butter Swatch + Review

It is mid-June and that means summer is officially here (even if the weather outside as I'm typing this hasn't quite gotten the memo). In the past week I've noticed a definite trend when it's come to my makeup. My whole face is simple and natural but I've been gravitating towards bright fuchsia lipstick--specifically the Revlon Lip Butter in "Lollipop". It's no secret that I love the Revlon Lip Butters. Click here to see the review I posted recently where I show off all the colors I own and explain why I love the range. But this post is all about why I love "Lollipop".

 "Lollipop" has the same great consistency as all of the other Revlon Lip Butters I've tried. It's smooth, easy to apply, and extremely opaque. The color is very true to the packaging and the look of the product in the tube. There is something about this product that you might not notice until you get it home, if you look very closely to my swatch you will notice that "Lollipop" does have some glitter in it. Now, normally I'm not a huge glitter fan--especially on the lips. I like a little glitter is some of my blush and highlight products but I find that glittery lipstick can sometimes look a little ostentatious. But with "Lollipop" the glitter is super subtle and hard to see unless you're super close up and looking for it.

In conclusion, I love-love-love-love this color. It is perfect for the warm days of summer. It would look great paired with a fun bikini on the beach or with a sophisticated dress for a night out. "Lollipop" is truly one of the most versatile shades I own. It's also the one that I get the most compliments when I wear it.

As you can see from the list above, the benefits of this product far outweigh the costs. "Lollipop" (and all the other Revlon Lip Butter shades I've owned) do not stay on the lips for very long. They tend to need re-application around an hour or two. These products aren't advertised as long lasting but I find that due to their soft and smooth formulation, the Lip Butters have a much shorter lifespan than a regular lipstick. But despite this flaw, I still love them. If you want to try a few shades I would recommend taking a look at "Lollipop", Sweet Tart", or "Gumdrop". These are all fantastic summer appropriate colors.

Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious Mascara

Was anyone else super excited about the newly released Lash Potion by Grow Luscious mascara? I know that as soon as I saw the Emma Stone advertisement, I was hooked. The packaging was stunningly modern AND it claimed that it would make my lashes grow longer. Who doesn't want longer lashes? You can imagine how excited I was when I received this in the mail as part of one of Revlon's Facebook promotions.

Maybe my expectations were too high but I was largely unimpressed with this mascara. So many drugstores (Maybelline and Physician's Formula come to mind) have been majorly stepping up their game. I have tried so many drugstore mascaras and LOVED them. They gave full, long but natural looking lashes without breaking the bank. I was hoping this would do the same thing. 

The formulation does a great job of lengthening but it is very clumpy. I'm not a huge fan of the spider-lash effect but I convinced myself to try to give the product the benefit of the doubt. Imagine my horror when a few hours later I looked in the mirror and the product had flaked all over my face. I can handle spider-lashes but I draw the line at flaky eyes.

I haven't been using this product long enough to tell whether or not my lashes have gotten longer but because it has a very flaky formulation, I don't think I will be wearing it very often in the future.  Here is a close-up of the much-hyped triple-groove wand that is supposed to give a clump-free application. I'm sad to say that I think this latest release from Revlon is more hype than substance. I would recommend passing on this product. It isn't worth the money (despite it's reasonable price tag).

 Revlon Lip Butters have received mountains of praise on the internet and I am here to reassure you that the hype is well deserved. I am the proud owner of five shades and there has yet to be a color that I didn't love. The Revlon Lip Butters are light weight, pigmented, and easy to wear. They apply like a dream and they fade like a dream (which is even better in my opinion). These things aren't the longest lasting products on the market but once they're gone they don't leave behind a trace of unflattering and uneven product on the lips. 

Revlon Lip Butters: Tutti Frutti, Gumdrop, Lollipop, Strawberry Shortcake, Sweet Tart

The Revlon packaging is--bar none--the sleekest and most modern on the drugstore shelves. They also come in a wide range of shades that are flattering for everyone. They do get a bit messy around the edges of the tube due to their ultra creamy formulation but it is only a minor nuisance--if anything. 

The Revlon Lip Butters (like all other Revlon products) are on the higher end of the drugstore price spectrum. They retail for around eight dollars each (but if you are clever, you can catch a sale and pay somewhere around five or six). But with that higher price tag, customers get a high quality product and excellent packaging. Buy or Bust? In my opinion, this a no brainer. Buy!

Here are the colors swatched on my arm. It is barely detectable in the picture (and in real life) but Gumdrop, Lollipop, and Strawberry Shortcake have the slightest hint of glitter. It doesn't bother me (one who normally abhors glitter in any lip product other than lip gloss) and to be honest I think that the glitter is a nice, but extremely subtle, touch. 

If you are looking to add a color to your makeup collection, I would recommend Lollipop, Sweet Tart, or Gumdrop. Lollipop is an effortless but bold fuschia pink. It is great for summer days out shopping or a late-night party. Sweet Tart is a beautiful everyday shade. It would look great on a wide range of skin tones. Gumdrop is a light, easy color to wear. It is extremely subtle (as you can already tell from the sheerness of the swatch above) but it gives a lovely hint of lilac and shimmer to the lips. It is a fantastic color to wear--especially during hot summer days.

Revlon "Wine With Everything" Lipstick Swatch + Review

Revlon has the best lipsticks in the drugstore. They have an amazing range. The finishes of each lipstick are clearly labeled. They are protected from people tampering with the product. The packaging is sleek and sophisticated. I can't think of a single drugstore brand that can compare. I honestly don't. And I think that is why Revlon is brand loved by women of all ages. I bought this lipstick specifically because my grandma wears it. She uses pretty much all Revlon lipsticks--I believe she has a couple Laura Geller ones that my bought her--but all of her lipsticks are Revlon. And she uses them down to bone and then goes back and buys another.

Revlon "Blue Lagoon" Nail Polish Swatch + Review

Revlon's "Blue Lagoon" is the perfect pastel blue nail polish. And I dont say this lightly because I have tried my fair share of blue nail polishes. Essie's "Borrowed and Blue" is a pretty color but it was limited edition and it was a bit too white, not enough blue. But "Blue Lagoon" is perfection. You can't see it in the swatch but "Blue Lagoon" is filled with iredescent glitter. Normally I'm not a fan of glitter but for some reason, this time I'm a big fan. It is noticeble enough that when I move my fingers I can see the glitter reflect the light. Revlon polishes are a bit hit-and-miss with me but I am so obsessed with ths color. I could spend the next twelve lines raving about this polish but I will end it here. Buy it! You will not regret it.

Revlon "Sweet Tart" Lip Butter Swatch + Review

This month, I have found a new love. It is probably getting obnoxious the amount of times I have blogged about Revlon products--especially about Lip Butters. But they are amazing products and I need to give them the recognition they deserve. I am staying with my Grandmda for three weeks and when I packed for my trip I accidentally grabbed this Lip Butter--probably thinking that it was "Strawberry Shortcake", which I love. But this shade is STUNNING. It is a subtle berry color and it looks SO good on the lips. It doesn't look cakey or fake like some of the lip butters tend to do if you apply them too quickly.

  

Like all the other Lip Butters I've reviewed "Sweet Tart" is moisturizing and easy to apply. This particular shade has a lipstick-like opacity. I have worn this shade almost all month long. It is amazing. I'm surprised to say this but it is probably my second favorite Lip Butter over passing "Strawberry Shortcake". Both are great colors but at the moment I can't get enough of "Sweet Tart". Not to mention that this is the color that Emma Stone is wearing on the cover of the latest issue of Teen Vogue. See? I'm not the only one is a fan of this shade.

Since coming to stay with my cousin I have been painting my nails like CRAZY! She has a pretty impressive nail polish collection and I want to try all of them! I guess nail polish obsessions run in the family. But while she has so many amazing nail polishes in her collection, Revlon "Ocean Breeze" is not one of them. It was hard to work with and when it dried it wasn't smooth and was really, really bubbly/bumpy. I kept adding layers, hoping to cover up the imperfections but that didn't help. Even in the swatch you can kind of see how rough the nail polish applied. I only wore it for one day before I quickly removed it. Plus, this is one of Revlon's scented nail polishes but, personally, it didn't smell very ocean breeze-y. And I would know! Because right now I'm in Hawaii--literally ten minutes from the beach. Instead it reminded me a lot of cleaning supplies. So gross. Thankfully, the smell wasn't too strong. But I warn people. DO NOT BUY THIS NAIL POLISH! The color is super pretty but it is not worth the hassle. That is, unless you like bumpy nail polish. In that case, go right ahead. 

Team USA Nails

 Happy almost Fourth of July! America is another year older. And to celebrate I made this cute nail tutorial for those who feel the need to display their patriotism on their fingers!

You're going to need. A top coat, a base coat, nail polish remover, Q-tips, and a chopstick/tooth pick--something that you can make small dots with. You're also going to need a blue polish, a red polish, a gold polish, a white polish, and an optional sparkly top coat. I'm using Sally Hansen "Hard to Get" [white], China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" [red], Nicole by OPI "Listen to Your Momager" [blue], Nicole by OPI "Glitter in My Stocking" [gold], and OPI "Servin' Up Sparkle" [sparkly top coat]. 

Apply a base coat. Then paint your pinky, middle finger, and thumb with the blue color. Paint your ring finger and pointer finger white.

 Using the chopstick or the toothpick, make gold dots.

Then draw on line using the red polish. Polishes with smaller brushes will be easier to work with. That is one of the reasons I choose China Glaze "Ruby Pumps". Also, don't worry about getting red on your skin because we will remove all of that later with nail polish remover. For those who are nail art masters, just stay inside the lines and you should be fine.  After you remove the red polish, you can stop here.

But I decided to add a sparkly top coat on top of the blue fingers. In my mind the gold dots are fireworks in the sky and the glitter makes it look like the starry night. It really adds a beautiful touch. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I hope you have a FANTASTIC Fourth of July.
