 After my raving review of the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in "Quenched", it should come as no surprise to you that I went out and purchased a few more colors. This time, instead of going for the clear option, I decided to go for some shades that would be super moisturizing but give my lips a little color in the process. It's the best of both world, right?

Unfortunately the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in "Grape Vine" was not all what I thought it would be. "Quenched" was super lightweight, ultra moisturizing, and smelled divine. "Grape Vine" on the other hand has a slightly heavier and waxier formula. And while the product feels nice on the lips, it isn't as moisturizing power hose. I find that after the product has worn off my lips are still chapped and I tend to reach for "Quenched" or Vaseline. But there is one thing, and one thing only, that has truly annoyed me about this product--the smell. It has the worst artificial grape scent. To be brutally honest, the smell makes me a little nauseous if I put it on too thickly because it is very potent.

Despite all of my complaints about the smell and formulation of this product, I have nothing but great things to say about how this product actually looks on the lips. It gives the most gorgeous but subtle wash of color. I like to wear the color on its own (when I know I will be spending a lot of time outside where the smell isn't as strong) but recently I've been carrying this color around with me throughout the day whenever I'm wearing a berry/deep pink lipstick. When my lipstick begins to fade and become patchy, I apply this over the top and it helps disguise any imperfections. I've especially been loving wearing it with the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in "Hooked on Pink". 

Positives

-Beautiful glossy finish

-Subtle and natural hint of color 

-Bright and fun packaging
-Safety packaging to prevent tampering (unlike many Maybelline lip products)

Negatives

-Strong artificial grape smell

-Doesn't cure really chapped lips

In conclusion, I'm a bit disappointed. I wish this product was so much more. I wish the smell didn't remind me of grape children's cough syrup. I wish it didn't just feel moisturizing but actually cured chapped lips. I love the way it looks on the lips but there are quite a few factors that are preventing me from dubbing it product a holy grail product. I think there are hundreds of women who will love the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in "Grape Vine" but I also know there will be just as many who will hate it or be on the fence (mostly because of that horrible smell). I hope this review will help you decided which category you'll fall into.

Drugstore Dupe: MAC "Darkside" vs. Maybelline "Blissful Berry"

Who doesn't love a good bargain and a great lipstick? MAC has some of the best lipsticks on the market but they're pricey. In August I published a post featuring a drugstore dupe for the popular MAC lipstick in the shade, "Lustering". Click here if you haven't seen it.  But it was very popular so I'm back with another drugstore dupe post but this time I'm writing about a fall favorite--"Darkside". 

In the bullet these two shades look nothing alike. "Darkside" looks like a deep, intense purple shade. A color that is extremely intimidating. While "Blissful Berry" looks like a lighter, berry color. I recently picked up the Maybelline lipstick because I thought it didn't look like anything in my collection. Yeah. I was wrong about that. Lipsticks in the bullet can be very deceiving.

When you swatch them on the back of the hand you can begin to see how similar the two shades actually are. They're both deep berry, burgundy shades with a cream finish. Although, right away, you can tell that the MAC lipstick has a more opaque and creamier finish.

Here are the two shades applied to my lips, side by side. Even in this final swatch you can see that "Darkside" is a tad bit more opaque. This is especially noticeable on the top lip, near my cupid's bow. But, all things considering, the two lipsticks are extremely similar. 

Other subtle differences include consistency and scent. The MAC lipstick is, as expected considering the price, a lot creamier in consistency. It also has that nice vanilla smell. However, the Maybelline lipstick retails for around $7.50 (depending on where you buy it). That is half the price of a MAC lipstick. If you're looking for a bold, berry color this fall and you don't want to spend too much, Maybelline's "Blissful Berry" is a wonderful choice.

Maybelline "Warm Me Up" Color Sensational Lipstick Swatch + Review

During my trip to Portland back in August, I decided to splurge and picked up some makeup goodies from the drugstore. For the past two months I've been testing out the products and I'm finally ready to share my opinion. I'm going to start with one of my favorite Portland purchases, the Maybelline lipstick in the shade "Warm Me Up".

"Warm Me Up" is the first Color Sensational lipstick from the nude section. I normally gravitate towards deep plums or bright reds but I told myself that I had to be practical. So I searched for a color that was nude that wasn't too brown or too light or too pink. You know the drill. In the end I finally settled on this color and I think I made a great choice.

 "Warm Me Up" is a nude color with a slight berry undertone. It's very similar to my own lip color (probably only a shade or two darker) but when I wear it, the color just gives a nice sheen and color to my lips. It somehow just makes me makeup look a bit more complete.

Here are the swatches of the product on the back of my hand and my lips. It's such a nice everyday color. There is no shimmer or glitter. Just a nice cream finish. I slap "Warm Me Up" on in the morning and then I can rush out the door. I don't have to worry about it smudging or fading unevenly. It's one of those nice your-lips-but-better lipsticks. It's just fantastic.

In conclusion, I love this lipstick. It's a lovely and effortless. Plus, it's available at the drugstore for around six dollars (depending on where you go). I do have some issues with the Maybelline Color Sensational range of lipsticks (click here to read a more detailed account about those issues) but I still enjoy the lipsticks enough to purchase them. I'm just wary about where and when I buy them.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Concealer

If MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in "Soft and Gentle" is my new holy grail highlighter, then the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer is my new holy grail concealer. The price is fantastic and it covers my dark circles like a dream. Since I bought this product in early July, I've forgotten about all the concealers I've used in the past. It is easy to throw in your bag and reapply throughout the day--although I find that I don't need to on most days.

The concealer comes with a sponge tip applicator. I was a little bit hesitant about this applicator because it seemed a little unsanitary but Maybelline claims that the sponge has been infused with anti-microbial system and doesn't require washing. I haven't noticed any evidence for or against the anti-aging claims but I've only been using it for two months or so.

I was talking to Tiffany from youtube.com/MakeupByTiffanyD on twitter and she recommended this concealer for dark under eye circles. And, of course she was right. I never go wrong when I listen to her. Tiffany knows her stuff.

In conclusion, I highly, highly recommend this product. Everyone is talking about it--and for good reason. I have never loved a drugstore concealer this much. I feel like my everyday makeup routine would be incomplete without this stuff. I will pass on Tiffany's great advice and say this: if under eye circles are a problem, pick up the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. It is a creamy, non-creasing, full coverage concealer that won't break the bank.

I think I went a little overboard. After I bought (and became obsessed) with the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in "Quenched", I knew I wanted more colors. I've done reviews for "Pink Wink" and "Pink Punch" (go check them out) and my review for "Grape Vine" will be up soon but I really wanted to talk about the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm line as a whole.

As I have mentioned in all of my past reviews, I think the packaging of the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balms is fantastic! It's eye-catching, young, bright, playful, and (probably the most significant) it's like nothing else on the market. Each flavor has a different color and they're all so bright (perfect to bright a little light into the upcoming gloomy months as we begin to transition in fall). But my love for the Maybelline Baby Lips isn't pure superficial, I also am in love with the product's formula. Unlike the eos lip balms (which I still use and love), the Baby Lips have a silkier and less waxy consistency. "Quenched", especially, is a chapped lips savior. I need it with me at all times.

But the Baby Lips aren't just a fantastic lip balm. As you can see from the swatches on my arm, a lot of the flavors are pretty pigmented for a tinted lip balm. "Pink Punch" especially is impressive. It is easily the most pigmented shade I own but "Grape Vine" gives the lips a beautiful, but subtle, purple sheen. "Grape Vine" would easily be my favorite if it didn't have a horrible, horrible medicine grape smell (Maybelline what were you thinking?). It looks gorgeous on the lips and if you can get past the scent, I think it is well worth your money. "Quenched" is another favorite. It doesn't give the lips any color but it is uber moisturizing. If you are looking for a powerful lip balm, pick it up.

In conclusion, I think the Baby Lips live up the hype. They're a great tinted lip balm but be aware that the product's pigmentation and moisturizing power are inversely proportionate. If a shade is more pigmented, then they tend to be a little waxier and less moisturizing. The reverse is also true. But, as whole, I was not disappointed with these products. They're a great alternative to eos lip balms (waxier and heavier formulation), softlips (all smell like mint and have tingling sensation), and Burt's Bees (waxier and heavier formulation) with the added bonus of a light wash of color--depending on which flavor you choose.

Happy August everyone! I can't believe that it's already August. It's crazy. But to start off the new month, I thought I would blog about a product that I absolutely loved in July. I'm sure since I've talked about how much I love the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in the flavors "Quenched" and "Pink Punch",  that it should come as no surprise that I'm also a big fan of the flavor "Pink Wink". I accidentally left "Quenched" in the car on the way to the airport so I've had to rely on "Pink Wink" to keep my lips moisturized.

"Pink Wink" is the middle ground between "Quenched" and "Pink Punch" in terms of formulation and pigmentation. "Quenched" is super moisturizing due to its very light formulation. "Pink Punch" will keep your lips moisturized but it has a heavier formulation and in my experience I've found that it isn't as effective. "Pink Wink" is somewhere in the middle. "Pink Punch" is a true tinted lip balm, "Quenched" gives the lips no extra color, and "Pink Wink" is somewhere in between.

As you can see, "Pink Wink" is not very pigmented. It gives a subtle wash of color to the lips but not much else. I am hesitant to call this product a tinted lip balm because the color is so hard to see. Out of the four Baby Lips that I own, "Pink Wink" is easily my least favorite when it comes to color. In certain lighting the color can make me look a little washed out. I don't know if I would recommend it to people with medium or olive skin tones based solely on the color of the product. But while it may not pack a huge punch in the pigmentation department, this stuff does a really great job of keeping your lips soft and smooth. It's a nice alternative to "Quenched" which is my favorite flavor. Plus, this stuff smells amazing. I can't get enough of the fruity smell. Yum!

It's only the second month of summer but I'm already feeling the heat--and so are my lips. I recently wrote a blog post about my love for the new Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in "Quenched". It was only a matter of time before I found myself purchasing the rest of the shades in the range. "Pink Punch" is a lovely medium bubble gum pink. The formulation is a little thicker and waxier than "Quenched" but it does a great job of balancing color and moisture.

The shade "Pink Punch" comes in a bubble gum pink tube that matches the product in the bullet and bright yellow writing on the cap. The Baby Lip line is easily one of the most eye-catching and best designed ranges at the drugstore. The packaging is a well balanced mix of youthful, fresh, and modern elements. Added bonus: the bright colors makes it easier to find at the bottom of a messy handbag or in the crevices of a cluttered car.

As you can see from the swatches above, "Pink Punch" is actually pretty pigmented for a tinted lip balm. If you want an even bolder pop of color, heat the product under a blow dryer for a few seconds or leave it in the car on a warm day before application. "Pink Punch" is a fantastic for days when you want a low-maintenance flush of color on the lips. Like "Quenched", "Pink Punch" smell is divine. It is a fresh fruity scent that is potent without being obnoxious. Out of all the Baby Lips I've tried, "Pink Punch" is the most pigmented but it is also the heaviest. Unlike "Quenched" which was extremely lightweight, "Pink Punch" has a slightly waxier formulation. It is about on par to the feel of the EOS lip balms.

In conclusion, the Maybelline Baby Lips very much so deserve all the hype they've been receiving since their release. "Pink Punch" is less moisturizing than the other shades I've tried from the Baby Lips range but it is also the most pigmented. It will keep your lips moisturized but you'll probably have to reapply more frequently. But in all honesty, I think it's a fair trade off. "Pink Punch" is a no-fuss-no-muss product--just swipe in on your lips and head out the door. It's the perfect product for a busy girl on the go who wants an effortless hint of color. But if you're looking for a product that will revamp your lips and help restore them to a state of ulta softness, check out "Quenched". As I said in that review, your lips will thank you.

It's finally time for me to review the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks! Spoiler alert: they're one of my favorite drugstore lipsticks. Why, you might ask? Well, I'm about to tell you. Reason number one. These lipsticks are a great basic lipstick at a fantastic price. No makeup brand has Maybelline's color range or can beat the price. With over 68 shades to choose from, there is going to be a color to suit everyone. The lipsticks aren't luxurious (nothing comparable in quality to a MAC or YSL or other high end brand lipsticks) but they work excellently for the price. They're highly pigmented and apply smoothly.

Now, onto the things that can be improved. My biggest complaint about Maybelline Lipsticks (I've said it so many times I'm beginning to sound like a broken record) is their lack of safety packaging. It makes me wary that anyone can open the lipstick, get germs all over the product, and I wouldn't even know. I'm sure most of their consumers wouldn't mind a raise in the price if that meant their products were guaranteed to be untouched. I'm also not a big fan of the generic chemical smell. It fades a few minutes after application, so it's not that big a of a deal. But I guess that's one of the luxuries you sacrifice with a smaller price tag. 

My last complaint is about how it is impossible to tell the finish of any of the Maybelline Lipsticks without opening the tube and looking at the actual bullet. This is a real problem because I am deathly afraid of frost or overly glittery finishes-especially when they come from the drugstore. I hope that in any future re-branding efforts, Maybelline will choose to add a section that addresses the finish. It is a big deal but, in the end, it could make a big difference.

Here are the four colors I own swatched on my arm. They all have a cream finish (because I am a firm believer in being safer rather than sorry) and unfortunately cannot speak to the quality of the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks in other finishes. "Yummy Plummy" and "Make Me Pink" are the colors that I've worn the most over the years. "Yummy Plummy" is probably my favorite just because it the perfect color to get a super subtle purple toned lip look. I cannot recommend it enough. Although I've worn those two colors the most since I purchased these shades, "Hooked on Pink" is quickly becoming one of my recent favorites. It is a bright pink/red that just makes me so excited for summer. "Fifth Ave. Fuchsia" is undeniably a gorgeous color but I'm rarely in the mood to wear a lipstick that is that bold. I normally prefer to go a little subtler with my makeup but if you are looking for a great, inexpensive fuchsia lipstick, definitely check out "Fifth Ave. Fuchsia".

In conclusion, you can't go wrong with buying one of the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks. Just be sure to take a really hard look at the bullet to make sure that it hasn't been used or tampered with. The product does have a few flaws but, for the price, I think these are an excellent choice. With such a large range of shades to choose from, Maybelline will have a color to suit your needs.

 The day I posted my review on the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in "Hooked on Pink", I took a little time and looked back on a few of the reviews I'd posted when I'd first started this blog. The Maybelline  lipstick in "Make Me Pink" was the featured product of one of those reviews. This past Christmas I finally upgraded from my iPhone camera to a Canon Rebel T3i. In the next few months I'm planning on going back through some of the old reviews I've done (the ones with the especially bad photographs), re-shoot the swatches, and re-post the reviews. So if you read my blog way back then (thank you to the people who are still with me) and see a familiar review, don't worry. You're not going crazy but I am running out of new products to post about each week--I am a college student after all. 

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in "Make Me Pink"

"Make Me Pink", like most of the lipsticks I've tried from Maybelline's Color Sensational line, is an excellent bargain at the drugstore, retailing for about $7.00 (depending on where you purchase it). The formulation of this range is very basic. It is smooth but not incredibly creamy. It has a strong generic chemical smell (but don't worry, after a few minutes you'll hardly notice). The darker colors have a very impressive lasting power but lighter shades like this one will require more touch-ups. The packaging is nice but feels inexpensive. These products don't have safety packaging in the store, meaning that anyone can tamper with the product before you purchase it. I remember spending a whole paragraph ranting about that in my last review but I'll spare you. With over 68 shades to choose from, the Maybelline lipsticks are an excellent option for people beginning to experiment with makeup. Plus, the price won't leave you with buyer's remorse.

"Make Me Pink" is a lovely, natural soft cool-toned pink color. It looks lovely on it's own or with a peach color gloss like Maracuja Divine Shine Lip Gloss in "Peaceful". It isn't the most unique color on the market but I'm almost one hundred percent certain that you won't find a similar color at a better price.

In conclusion, this product does have a couple major flaws but the price makes these flaws easier to overlook. I cannot emphasize how particular I am about where I purchase my Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks. I try to purchase them from Ulta's or Targets that don't get a lot of traffic because, quite frankly, it makes me nervous that they don't come with safety packaging. They cost a little extra at those locations but I'll just wait for them to go on sale.

Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo Cream Shadows: Bad to the Bronze, Tough As Taupe, and Barely Beige

I think it's time to mix things up a little, don't you? Your normally scheduled lip product and nail polish swatches will return next week but today let's talk about the Maybelline 24 Hour color Tattoo Cream Eye Shadows. Long name, I know, but these things are magic in a container. They are the best cream shadows at the drugstore. Period. And I'm not the only one who thinks these bad boys are the bees knees. I actually picked up my first color tattoo--Bad to the Bronze--after hearing MissGlamorazzi and Amarixe rave about it on their YouTube channels. And I was not disappointed.

Now I know some of you might be asking, "What's all the hullabaloo? What makes these cream shadows so special?" Honestly, I think it's because these are MAC quality paint pots on sale at the drugstore for a fraction of the cost. The Maybelline 24 Hour Tattoo Cream Shadows have a smooth but thick formulation that makes it easy to apply to eye with a brush or with a finger. When worn under powder eye shadows, it makes them appear more vibrant. And this stuff is super long lasting. 

Just for reference  MAC paint pots retail for $18.50 while the Maybelline Color Tattoos retail for about 6.99 depending on where you buy them. That is a significant price difference!

 Since I've bought these, I never wear eye makeup without it underneath. It helps make my shadows appear more vibrant and last all day long. I absolutely love sweeping on "Bad to the Bronze" or "Barely Beige" on my lid (these shades look lovely on their own) before I head out the door. These things are no muss, no fuss products and would be perfect addition to a busy woman's makeup bag.

Here are the colors swatched on the back of my hand. Are they gorgeous? "Tough As Taupe" has excellent formulation but I'm not a big fan of the color. I find that it requires a bit more work than the other two and I find that it's a bit dark for the types of makeup looks I gravitate towards. It's a fantastic color for a smokey eye. "Bad to the Bronze" and "Barely Beige" are the two colors that I reach for the most. As I mentioned before, I really like wearing them by themselves when I want a simple eye look. 

"bad to the Bronze" and "Tough As Taupe" are both part of the permanent range but unfortunately  "Barely Beige" was a limited edition color. You might be able to find it but I doubt it. That brings me to my biggest complaint about the Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo Cream Shadows. There isn't a great selection of neutral colors. I wish Maybelline would introduce "Barely Beige" and a darker nude color into the permanent range. Only time will tell, I guess. But I am very impressed with the bold, bright colors they do have. It's only a matter of time before I get my hands on "Tenacious Teal" and "Pomegranate Punk".

In conclusion, I think these are a fantastic product. I've been using them for about a year now and haven't had any major problems with the product. Make sure to keep the lid screwed on tight because they will dry out if you're not careful. The Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo Cream Shadows are extremely high quality products at an amazing price point. Don't waste your money on a paint pot if you can find a similar color in this range.

 I have already done a few reviews of colors from the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick range in the past (click here and here to see those) and my opinion of the range has not changed significantly since I published those blog posts. I think Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks are great basic, inexpensive lipsticks for everyday wear. These aren't the most luxurious product on the drugstore market (the formulation feels a bit waxy on the lips and the packaging feels light and inexpensive) but the color range is large and the color has a pretty good lasting power.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in "Hooked on Pink"

"Hooked on Pink" is not the name I would've picked for this deep rose, almost red, shade but, none the less, this is a lovely shade. "Hooked on Pink" is a cream shade--no glitter, shimmer, or reflex. I think this would be a wonderful color for women who want to wear a red lip but don't feel comfortable wearing  bold, in-your-face color. This would make a lovely transition lipstick. Wear this for a few weeks and then maybe move onto a lovely red lipstick like the Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in "Romantic" (a sheer red color).

Positives

-Smooth application

-Highly pigmented

-Fades evenly and beautifully

-Price (around $7.49) 

Negatives

-Generic, chemical smell

-No safety packaging for products in store

-Can be drying

In conclusion, this is a great basic lipstick especially for women and men just getting into makeup. I don't think the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks are the highest quality lipstick at the drugstore (if you're willing to splurge a little more check out the Revlon Lip Butters, the Revlon Super Lustruous Lipsticks, or the CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipsticks). But I think that for the price (I've seen these retail for four dollars on sale), you won't be disappointed. I was inspired to write this post because I've been wearing this color almost exclusively for the past week or so. It's one of my favorite lipsticks of the moment.

Maybelline "Quenched" Baby Lips Lip Balm Swatch + Review

I finally got on the bandwagon. I know. I know. Everyone has been talking about the Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balms and I was never really interested. I had my eos lip balm. I didn't think I needed another. But clearly, I was wrong. I still like the eos lip balms but they tend to feel heavy and waxy on the lips. On the other hand, the Maybelline Baby Lips are so smooth and lightweight. They're also SUPER moisturizing. These bad boys will turn chapped lips into smooth lips in a matter of a few applications--no problem.

Unlike the other Maybelline Baby Lips, "Quenched" is completely clear. There really was no reason for me to post a swatch but as a beauty blogger I wanted to be thorough. Plus, taking pictures of swatches is one of my favorite parts of being a beauty blogger. Even when I have to stand outside in abnormally cold and windy weather.

Here is what the lip balm looks like on the lips. As I said earlier, it is completely clear but it does give your lips a lovely sheen/gloss. I am officially obsessed with this product and I cannot recommend it more! I have tried a few of the other Maybelline Baby Lips but I wasn't as impressed. Check out "Quenched" if you are looking for an easy and powerful lip balm. Your chapped lips will thank you.

Maybelline Color Whisper "Cherry On Top" Lip Color Swatch + Review

Agh! I have finally got my hands on one of the new Maybelline Color Whispers! It was a belated Valentine's Day gift from my little sister (along with a One Direction cup and pink fuzzy cat socks). Only more proof that my sister knows me so well.

Maybelline describes the Color Whisper line as "truly translucent gel color" that gives the lips "sexy, soft, see through color" with "no heavy waxes or oils...just a kiss of shine". To begin with, Maybelline released twenty shades ranging for a soft nude to a bold plum.
