13 Nights of Halloween: My Carved Pumpkins I Snow White + Princess Jasmine

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 13 Nights of Halloween has come to an end (sadly) but I saved the best for last. But before we check out my pumpkin carving skills, can we please appreciate how awesome the moon looked like a few weeks ago? Pretty awesome. Okay, now onto what you've all been waiting for...the pumpkins!

Princess Jasmine Pumpkin
This was my first attempt at pumpkin carving this year and, if I do say so myself, it turned out pretty darn good. Her hair is my favorite part. But then again, ever since I was a little girl I've always been a little obsessed with Princess Jasmine's hair. I mean, just look at it! It's perfection.

Snow White Pumpkin
My original plan was to carve all seven Disney Princesses (except Merida--but only because I didn't have a pattern) but that was a bit ambitious. Snow White proved to be a bit more difficult than I'd expected. You can't tell from the picture but this pumpkin was still a bit green. Yeah, I didn't realize how difficult that little detail would make the carving process. It was almost impossible to find the holes I'd poked. It took forever. In the end, I think it turned out okay. Because the pumpkin is still a bit green it photographed a bit werid but I love my Snow White pumpkin all the same.

Did you do any pumpkin carving for Halloween? Send me a tweet if you did. I would love to see it. Also, which Disney Princess is your favorite. Mine would have to be Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Smarts and looks? What more can you ask for!

13 Nights of Halloween: Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. The Evil Queen

Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. The Evil Queen
Happy second-to-last day of 13 Nights of Halloween! Woohoo! I had something else planned but at the last minutes those plans sort of fell through. And so I'm going to be talking about the last and final Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kits that I bought at the beginning of the month. Yeah! This one features everyone's favorite evil step-mom who hires a woodsman to cut out her step-daughter's throat so that she can stay young and beautiful forever! Yes, of course I'm talking about the Evil Queen from Snow White.

The kit comes with one container of caviar beads, one stiff bristle brush, one bottle of top coat, foil tape, a sheet of nail art stickers, and six packets of HD glitter. It's a lot of supplies and, honestly, the possibilities with this set are almost endless. This kit is a bit more gothic with skull nail stickers and that glitter have a decidedly fall theme to them. I used this kit a lot when creating my nail art design for this year's Halloween. That was what was going to be posted today but the pictures didn't turn out very well. Hopefully, I can post a picture sometime after Halloween.

I think that I'm going to try something similar during December. Have any fun suggestions for what I should call my December series? Leave them in the comments below!

13 Nights of Halloween: Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. Ursula

Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. Ursula
I hope you guys have been enjoying my 13 Nights of Halloween posting schedule. I know I missed posting yesterday--I was studying for a midterm and ran out of time--but I'm back today with another look at the newly released Disney Villains Nail Art sets from Kiss. This one featuring, probably my favorite female villain, the wickedly lovely Ursula.

Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. Ursula
Whoever did the art and graphic design for these sets deserves an A+. They managed to capture Ursula's slimy personality and yet manage to keep her looking fabulous. I mean, look at those lashes! They're marvelous.

The kit comes with one container of caviar beads, one stiff bristle brush, one bottle of top coat, foil tape, a sheet of nail art stickers, and six packets of HD glitter. It's a lot of supplies and, honestly, the possibilities with this set are almost endless. I was really attracted to the glitter in this kit. They're all lovely, sea-inspired shades. I'm excited to try and replicate the example nail featured on the front of the kit.

In case you didn't know. this Disney Villains collection also includes four makeup palletes from elf, hair ties from Scunci, and false lashes. I know that elf came out with a Disney Villains collection last year but I wasn't impressed with the quality of the packaging or the products. It felt like a bad remake of the MAC Villainous Villains collection that came out years ago.  I didn't puck up anything but as soon as I saw this, I was blown away by the art. It's stunning. It isn't an exact copy of the characters from the movies but its a cool and artistic twist on the characters we all love to hate.

And, like all the other kits, this one features a creature from the movie on the inside flap. Here is Flotsam (or Jetsam) hanging out reminding all of us that sometimes it's fun to be bad!

It's only two more days until the end of 13 Nights of Halloween! If you've missed any of my posts you can click here to see them all. It's been fun posting on a more frequent basis. 13 Nights of Halloween: My Carved Pumpkins I Jack Skellington + Tinker Bell

Jack Skellington Pumpkin
I wish I could take credit for this pumpkin masterpiece but all the accolades belong to my Dad. We were all carving pumpkins and, using his electric drill, he managed to credit this incredible likeness to the Pumpkin King himself. I don't think that was what he was aiming for but he did a wonderful job. I'm not going to reveal the pumpkins I carved until the final day of 13 Nights of Halloween. But here's a look back at some of the pumpkins I've created in the past.

Scary Pac-Man, Tinker Bell, and Haunted House Pumpkins
Here at the pumpkins created for the Halloween of 2011. My dad did an evil pumpkin Pac-Man, my little sister carved an excellent Tinker Bell, and I did a haunted house. Very spooky, very appropriate for Halloween. My family is very gifted when it comes to pumpkin carving--as you can probably tell.

Are you doing anything to celebrate? Tell me in the comments below! Send me pictures of your pumpkins on twitter. I can't wait to see them.

Rimmel "10" Lasting Finish By Kate Moss Lipstick Swatch + Review

In this installment of 13 Nights of Halloween, we have another lipstick review. Other than dark, vampy colors like MAC's "Darkside", a bright, blood-red color is one of the most popular lipstick shades to wear on Halloween. Why? Because whether you're going as Snow White or Cruella De Vil or Taylor Swift, you will need red lipstick to complete your look. Also, Halloween is the one night a year when you can go crazy and no one will judge you. So be bold! Also, I've been wearing this lipstick A TON lately and I really, really wanted to talk about it.

Rimmel London "10" Lasting Finish By Kate Moss Lipstick
Rimmel "10" Lasting Finish By Kate Moss Lipstick
The Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipstick range is uber popular on the blog-o-sphere, especially with British beauty bloggers. Zoe from Zoella is a huge fan of a lot of the Rimmel lipsticks and I'm not gonna lie, after watching her most recent Fall Favorites video I knew that I had to try them. I had waited too long!

The first thing I noticed in the store was that the lipsticks don't have actual names. They're assigned numbers but that's about it. I picked up three shades "01", "10", and "12". Both "01" and "10" are bold red colors and even when doing swatches for my blog I had to be careful not to mix them up. It doesn't help that they look so similarly and their numbers are also quite similar. The second thing I noticed was the packaging. These lipsticks come in a sleek black packaging with the company logo embossed on the outside and Kate Moss's signature on the lid. I'm not a huge fan of Kate Moss but I think that the overall look is very appealing and fun.

This range has a cult following in the states but I never really got around to trying it out until recently. And let me tell you, they're amazing!
Rimmel London "10" Lasting Finish By Kate Moss Lipstick Swatch
As you can tell from the swatch above, this lipstick is a bright, bold red color. It is a true cherry red. It's the kind of color that will look good on almost everybody. And lately, I feel like I'm obsessed with this shade. If I'm not wearing it to class then I'm wearing it alone in my room while I'm studying. It's a color that exudes confidence and I feel so powerful and strong when I wear it.
Maybe that's why almost all of the female Disney villains have red lips. It gives them that boost of confidence.

Here is what the color looks like applied to the lips. It's certainly a knockout shade. Once applied, it's has a very creamy and smooth consistency. However, I have noticed that when you first start application, the lipstick tugs a bit at the lips. It also has a generic, old lipstick sort of smell. Normally I hate, hate, hate the generic, old lipstick smell. But, somehow, Rimmel makes it work. Don't ask me how but it just does.

POSITIVES
-Great pigmentation
-Fantastic price
-Available at all major drugstores
-Sleek, edgy packaging

NEGATIVES
-Small color range
-Transfers easily
-Is only assigned a number, not a name
-Application can tug at the lips

In conclusion, I am starting to believe that all of the hype surrounding the Rimmel London Lasting Finish By Kate Moss Lipsticks is well deserved. It's a fantastic product, for a fantastic price. In comparison to the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks, these are more pigmented but Maybelline has a far superior range. The CoverGirl lipsticks have a grainier formulation and a lot of their shades have chunky, monkey glitter--not the sort of look I'm going for. This range is filled with fantastic basic lipsticks that will be in your collection for years. They are amazing.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro Nail Polish in "Steel Grey"

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Nail Polish in "Steel Grey"
Today's installment is a bit of a loose interpretation of this month's post's Halloween theme but I hope you don't mind. Today I'm going to be talking about this grey polish from Rimmel, aptly called "Grey Steel". It's a color that would look lovely year round but as I was looking through my nail polish for "spooky" polishes, I saw this one and thought "Aha." "Steel Grey" is a beautiful cream purple grey color that was a product of the greige beauty craze that hit the market a few years ago. It's one of my roommate's favorite colors--she's used up an entire bottle--and I quickly became a fan too.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Nail Polish in "Steel Grey"
The more I looked at "Steel Grey" the more I realized its a fantastic option for Halloween. It's a little spooky but it doesn't scream "Trick or Treat!" If you're looking for a cool but subtle shade to wear with your Halloween costume--and you don't want to go with the obvious choice, black--I would recommend checking out "Steel Grey". It's extremely inexpensive and readily available at almost any drugstore. If you don't wear it ever again, you don't have to feel too guilty because you haven't wasted too much money, but this is one of those colors that the more you wear it, the more you like it. At least that's what I've discovered.

13 Nights of Halloween: Pumpkin Haul!

Five days ago I blogger about my recent trip to the pumpkin patch. I took so many pictures while we were there that I decided it would be more efficient (and more fun) if I did a separate blog post dedicated to all the pumpkins we picked up while we were there. Like I said in that post, I think we went a little overboard.

In total, we picked up nine (I repreat NINE) pumpkins. Six were the traditional medium sized, orange pumpkins. Two were these super spooky, super fun white pumpkins. And then I picked up a mini pumpkin to add a little Halloween spirit to my dorm room. I don't plan on carving it, so hopefully it'll last until Thanksgiving.

We also picked up one of those pumpkin carving pattern books. My personal favorite is the one with the kitten in the bottom left corner. It is ADORABLE. I also think that the castle with the bats is pretty cool. I haven't really decided what I'm going to carve on my pumpkins (I picked up three). Do you guys have any suggestions? Leave them in the comments below!

13 Nights of Halloween: Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. Cruella De Vil

A lot of you seemed to enjoy yesterday's post dedicated to the Malificent Disney Villains Nail Art Kit, so today I decided that it wouldn't be too much of an overkill if I talked about the Cruella De Vil kit. As I mentioned in my last post, I did get all four of the kits because, really, doesn't everyone need four nail art kits? They all come with different glitter and caviar beads and nail stickers, so I felt like I could sort of justify purchasing them all. I'm a HUGE Disney nerd and stuff like this just sucks me in. I try to resist but my attempts are futile.

The kit comes with one container of caviar beads, one stiff bristle brush, one bottle of top coat, foil tape, a sheet of nail art stickers, and six packets of HD glitter. It's a lot of supplies and, honestly, the possibilities with this set are almost endless. What made me really want this kit was, of course, the paw print nail stickers. I know that sounds so lame but they're so cute. I wasn't a huge fan of the glitter colors but I think that they would look beautiful in December during Christmas time.

In case you didn't know, this Disney Villains collection also includes four makeup palletes from elf, high ties from Scunci, and lashes. I know that elf came out with a Disney Villains collection last year but I wasn't impressed with the quality of the packaging or the products. It felt like a bad remake of the MAC Villanous Villains collection that came out years ago. I didn't pick up anything but as soon as I saw this, I was blown away by the art on the packaging. It's stunning. It isn't an exact copy of the characters from the movies (like the other elf and MAC collection were) but it s cool and artistic twist on characters that we love to hate. If next year's collection is half as beautiful as this one, I'll have to buy more. I mean look at how lux Cruella's coat looks (although don't kill dogs for their fur, that's wrong) and the beautiful city skyline in the background. I also love how they added a picture of one of the puppies on the inside flap. Oh gosh, it's perfection.

Tomorrow's 13 Nights of Halloween blog post will not be another nail art kit review (I promise). I hope that you guys are enjoying this new series I've started. If you have any suggestions for future blog posts, please leave them in the comment below! I hope you guys have a fantastic day and I will see you tomorrow.

13 Nights of Halloween: Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. Malificent

It is day three of my new 13 Nights of Halloween series and continuing with the beauty theme (this is, after all, a beauty blog) I decided to review the new Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kit featuring the beautiful and very much misunderstood, Maleficent. I managed to get my hands on all four of the Disney Villains Nail Art Kits but this one, by far, was the hardest to find. I think I went to four or five Walgreen's before I could get my hands on this stuff. It was kind of insane.

But just looking at the glitter and the caviar beads that comes with this set, I can understand why. The Maleficent kit has the most beautiful colors. I love the way the blues and the greens and the purples all look together. But, before I go on and on about how beautiful everything is, let's get down to business: what comes in the kit?

Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. Maleficent
Kiss Disney Villains Nail Art Kit feat. Malificnet
The kit comes with one container of caviar beads, one stiff bristle brush, one bottle of top coat, foil tape, a sheet of nail art stickers, and six packets of HD glitter. It's a lot of supplies and, honestly, the possibilities with this set are almost endless. I am most excited to try the glitters and the stickers from this set--although I have to admit that I am still a little confused why there are butterfly and flamboyant swirl stickers. Cruella De Vil had paw prints and Ursula had sea shells. Was there a pivotal butterfly scene that I forgot about?

I've done a little experimenting with each of the kits--mixing and matching supplies from all four--and I can't decide which one I like the most. Each of them has things that I love and things that I'm not as crazy about. But, although I haven't spent that much time playing around with these kits, I highly recommend them. You will have to act fast because when I bought these a couple weeks ago they were almost completely sold out. This Disney Villains collection also includes four makeup palletes from elf, high ties from Scunci, and lashes.

I might have bought a few more products from the collection, so keep your eyes peeled for that! I'm starting to realize that a large chunk of my 13 Nights of Halloween series might just consist of reviews of products from this collection. So...yeah. I hope you don't mind too much. I'll be back tomorrow with another Halloween inspired blog post. Bye!

MAC "Dark Side" Lipstick Swatch + Review

It's day two of my 13 Nights of Halloween series and I thought to myself this morning, what better beauty product to talk about than a lipstick called "Dark Side"? It was a match made in Halloween beauty heaven. This summer I jumped the gun a little early when I picked up this bold and very Fall lipstick back in July when I was visiting family in Hawaii. Yeah...I guess I was just really, really excited about Fall.

MAC "Dark Side" Lipstick
"Dark Side" is a super popular color both on and off the internet. Whenever I go to my MAC counter, the MAC girl always, always, always recommends this color. At first, I didn't even consider buying the color. It was SUPER intense and I didn't feel comfortable wearing something like that. But, as I've gotten more and more into makeup, I've become more and more adventurous.  And after watching countless beauty bloggers and YouTubers rock this color with confidence I began to wonder. Why not wear a super bold color? Who cares?

MAC "Dark Side" Lipstick
MAC "Dark Side" Lipstick Swatch
I will be the first to admit that the lipstick looks incredibly intimidating in the tube but it isn't quite so on the lips. It becomes a beautiful dark, purple-red color when applied. It is considered an Amplified Creme and has a super opaque but smooth formulation. On days when I don't want such an extreme look, I apply a light layer and it wears like a long lasting stain. "Dark Side" is a very popular shade but, as I've compared this lipstick to others in my collection, I've learned that it isn't very unique. I've compiled a list of a few drugstore dupes and, if you love this color but don't want to spend a lot of money, maybe wait and check out that post when I publish it in a few weeks. Maybe it'll be one of my posts for 13 Nights of Halloween? I don't know. Does it fit into the theme? Leave your thoughts in the comments below! I'd love to know what you think.

13 Nights of Halloween: Spooner Farms Harvest Festival + Pumpkin Patch

Midterms are in full swing but that seems to only makes want to talk about Halloween even more. Anything to distract me from the mind numbing torture that is studying for organic chemistry. Anyone else out there feeling my pain? It helps to know you're not alone. Last week, before the chaos of midterms started, I took a trip with my family to Orting, Washington to visit Spooner's Pumpkin Patch. Over the past few years, it's become something of a family tradition.

Spooner's one of the largest pumpkin patches in the Tacoma area. I mean, as you can see, there are literally rows and rows and rows of pumpkins to pick from. It's a really cool experience, roaming around with your wheelbarrow as you search for the perfect pumpkin. The entire place is filled with fun and spooky decorations like the hay spiders and a gigantic pumpkin--like the one from the movie, Halloweentown--which makes for perfect photo opportunities for adults and little kids alike. Although beware: if its been raining, make sure to bring rain boots because it can get really, really muddy.

But what makes Spooner's a must visit are the other attractions they provide for visitors. Ever wanted a squash shaped like a swan or a turban or a banana? Well, the small squash shopping section is the place for you. They also have a small gift shop that carries everything from pumpkin carving supplies, deliciously rich fudge, and other spooky decorations for Halloween. For younger kids, they offer a mini maze, a mini race track, face painting, balloon animals, farm animals, and pumpkin sling shots. There is enough stuff to do for an entire afternoon. The food isn't the best (I would recommend eating before or bringing food from home) but I'm always impressed with all other aspects of my experience. I think we might have gone a little overboard. Did we really need to buy ten pumpkins? Definitively not. But I'm excited to carve my pumpkins and display them on my porch. I'm sort of a pumpkin carving ninja--not really. Bit I try.

But the one thing that I look forward to every year is the corn maze. Each year they have a fun theme--in previous years its been anything from The Chronicles of Narnia to Egypt--and this year was Monsters, loosely based on Monster's Inc. I mean, look that that maze! It's Mike and Sulley. I love those guys! They have these sculptures throughout the maze and at the end you get a fun prize. If you get the chance, check out Spooner's and tell me what you think! Click here to visit the farm's website and get more information!

Today is the beginning of my new 13 Nights of Halloween series. For the next 13 days I'm going to try (emphasis on try) to post a Halloween inspired post every day. Some of them will be beauty related but a lot of them will be random lifestyle posts like today. I hope you enjoy them! Let me know what you'd like to see in the comments below!
